Description - This superb antique print is a hand-coloured lithograph from the famous and now rare series, Birds of Australia published circa 1840-48. This image is in good condition. Unfortunately, the scan does not show the complete bird due to its size. It also comes with the text page, which has some foxing marks on it. Famous ornithologist, affectionately called the Bird Man, John Gould spent a life time publishing his works. Gould was not only a brilliant ornithologist, but also an artist and a very successful businessman. Whilst most people remember John Gould quite a few would not know of his wife Elizabeth who in the early years produced the hand-coloured lithographs.
